MYSTERY OF THE SAXOPHONE OF BAKERMATS HIT RECORD ONE DAY (VANDAAG): #SOLVED

First of all, with 'One Day/Vandaag', Bakermat did an amazing creative job, combining the legendary Martin Luther King 'I have a Dream' speech with dance beats, piano and extremely processed saxophone. Since then all music he produces stands out with his true signature sound.

Since 'One Day' has become such a monster hit, I think the world should know who played the important alto sax parts on this popular track! As a saxophonist and producer myself, ever since this track surfaced, I have been wondering who did play that extremely vibrating, heavily processed alto saxophone riffs.. Nobody seemed to know, until my producer/DJ-friend Axx (NL) told me he had these particular sax riffs in a sample pack on his computer!

The samples appeared to be issued between 1991 and 1998 on a Sonic Foundry 'ACID' Sample Pack DVD called: 'Vince Andrews Solos and Sections'. Intrigued as I was, I started searching the internet for information about this saxophonist and the Sonic Foundry Samples DVD. It took me a while but eventually on Ebay I found and bought it, second hand. In all webshops worldwide the DVD was discontinued..

So who is VINCE ANDREWS? Vince Andrews was a talented American jazz saxophonist who recorded the samples for the Sonic Foundry DVD, around 1991. Cool fact is that Lodewijk Fluttert (the real name of composer/producer Bakermat) was born in 1991.. An even more remarkable, but sad, fact is that Vince Andrews (Vincent Gerard Andrews) died on july 7, 2012... in the same year Bakermat released his succesful 'Vandaag' track..

Vince Andrews came from Dayton Ohio and played alto, tenor, baritone, soprano sax and flute. He performed in major concert venues in the USA and with artists from all over the world. He was an affiliate artist of The Yamaha Corporation, and was a sound developer for Sonic Foundry's ACID. A gifted saxophonist/musician who recorded over 14 albums on CD, most of them released on his own label Gerard Records and who did more than 7000 live stage performances. In 1996 Andrews suffered a traumatic brain injury and was battling disorders associated with TBI until his passing. So, every time you hear that Bakermat track again on the radio or a dance party, think a moment of who played that sax!
